Legistlation for Legalizing Online Casinos in the U.S.
Representative Jim McDermott, a Democrat from Washington, has introduced a bill to tax online gambling and establish regulations regarding the conduct of USA online casinos and gambling sites. McDermott is prepared to accept the reality that online gambling can not be stopped nor prevented by passing laws, as Congress attempted to do in recent years.
Financial projections by by Price Waterhouse, McDermott claimed that proper taxation and control of online casinos would generate the US government revenues ranging from $8.2 - $42.8 billion over the next ten years. Ignoring such a source of income while the nation is at war and facing hard economic times would be extremely harmfull to the US governmet.
The government has previously tried to stop the USA online gambling business by legistlating the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, which was suppose to prevent funds transfer from financial institutions in the USA to online casino websites. So far this piece of legistlation has failed from stopping millions of US online casino players from finding new ways to fund their online gaming accounts, and has caused a huge protest by international trade partners of the USA who claimed that this is a breach of trade agreements the US is signed on.
The bill has been introduces as a complement to the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act by Representative Barney Frank's bill, which is suppose to allow each state to tax and limit online gambling revenues.
