U.S. lawmakers Urge to Suspend Anti US Online Casino Investigations

Two U.S. lawmakers from the Democratic party have urged the U.S. Justice Department to suspend investigations being held against European online casino companies for possible criminal violations that occurred prior to the passing of the anti internet gambling law in 2006 by Congress which initiated the crack down on US online Casinos.
Robert Wexler, a Democratic representative from Florida, and Steve Cohen, a a Democratic representative from Tennessee, sent separate warning letters to U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey stating that the issue could lead to potential damaging trade spat between the US and the European Union at the WHO.
In the letter Wexler stated that 'In all likelihood, this issue will escalate and I understand could result in WTO action focused specifically on how the U.S. government enforces its laws. I cannot see how that can be in the interests of this country,".
Online gambling companies based in Europe have lost billions of Dollars in market value and income Since the US Congress moved to close the U.S. market for onlinr gambling by passing a lwa that makes it illegal for banks and credit card processors to make payments to US online casino websites.
This law that allowed US based online sport betting and online lotteries prompted the EU to initiate a formal investigation in March into whether Washington was singling out European based companies for enforcement actions, while allowing U.S. online firms to maintain operations.
