Land Based Casinos Ready to Turn to Online Gaming Once USA Law Changes

Land based Casinos May Try to Lure Online Casino Patrons The perfect legislative storm is at hand to force the USA repeal of the UIGEA, and battered land casino resort operators are looking to prepare to enter the Internet Gaming market. Once the inevitable opening of the USA online Gaming sector happens, large casino corporations are expected to try to dominate the market they so long resisted.

Gaming expert Richard Hauser stated, "Land based Casinos, MGM Mirage, and the like will try to use their brand power to overwhelm the smaller foreign-based
online casinos. Those companies are no longer able to continue their out-of-control spending on new resorts, and are turning to the Internet as a new source of income."

The American Gaming Association, the leading advocate for the big Nevada and New Jersey casino operators, has been going through a sea change in its attitude toward
online Casino Gambling. Once a staunch opponent, the AGA now is a cautious supporter of licensed and regulated Internet gaming in the USA.

Hauser notes the strong political connections of these massive companies, and says there is some expectation in the Internet casino world that the land casino operators will push legislators to adopt a licensing policy favoring them, using the pretext that they should be given special status as USA-based companies.

But the Remote Gaming Association, which represents European online Gaming concerns, will be keeping a watchful eye on USA legislation. The RGA will want the USA to honor its pledges to free trade in services, or else it may continue its grievance before the European Commission. The EC has completed an investigation into USA Internet Gaming policies, and may pursue the case to the World Trade Organization if protectionist measures are installed in new laws.

Still, Hauser warns online casinos already operating that, while the reopening of the USA market may bring many millions in new revenue, "big fish will be swimming in the pond now, looking for little fish to swallow whole. The change in law will present great opportunity, but also new dangers."
